Job Summary
Thermal Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design, analysis, and optimization of high-temperature airflow and thermal control products. This role will focus on thermal and mechanical performance, material science, and product validation to ensure systems maintain structural integrity and performance in extreme environments.
This is a hands-on engineering role with opportunities to influence the next generation of company core products.
Core Responsibilities
- Design and Development: Create and refine damper and expansion joint designs using CAD (SolidWorks or similar) with focus on performance in high-temperature, high-stress environments.
- Thermal and Mechanical Analysis: Apply CFD and FEA modeling to predict thermal behavior, expansion, creep, and material fatigue under sustained heat loads (up to 2000•F).
- Material Selection: Identify and specify appropriate alloys, insulations, and refractory materials suitable for extreme thermal and mechanical conditions.
- Prototyping and Validation: Oversee prototype builds and develop testing protocols to verify mechanical strength, thermal resistance, and lifecycle performance.
- Performance Optimization: Refine designs for manufacturability, cost efficiency, and long-term reliability using data-driven iteration and simulation tools.
- Collaboration: Work closely with manufacturing, project management, and sales teams to ensure design intent aligns with customer requirements and production capabilities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
- Proven experience (or strong academic exposure) in thermal analysis, heat transfer, and mechanical design.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks, ANSYS, COMSOL, or similar simulation/design tools.
- Understanding of creep, thermal expansion, and stress analysis in high-temperature applications.
- Experience with metal fabrication, refractory materials, or industrial HVAC/flow control systems preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in HVAC, energy, power generation, or process equipment industries.
- Familiarity with industrial dampers and expansion joint design.
- Prior exposure to welded assemblies, sheet metal design, or fabricated structures.
- Experience with prototype testing and performance validation in high-temperature environments.
