Job Summary
Purpose of Position:
The Senior Manager of Accounting is a key financial leader responsible for overseeing all regional accounting activities within the transportation division. This role ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting while maintaining a strong internal control environment. The Senior Manager partners closely with operational leadership, including the Regional Vice President of Transportation, to provide financial insights that support strategic decisionmaking, cost optimization, and overall business performance. This position leads regional accounting staff, manages budgeting and forecasting processes, oversees capital expenditure tracking, and ensures adherence to corporate financial policies and regulatory requirements. The Senior Manager of Accounting plays a critical role in driving continuous improvement, enhancing financial processes, and supporting the longterm financial health of the transportation organization.
Accountabilities:
- Complete monthend closings for the region and submit accurate and timely financial reporting to the Department Director.
- Perform and monitor financial controls, account reconciliations, and related procedures to ensure a strong and compliant control environment.
- Conduct financial analysis to evaluate business performance, identify trends, and support datadriven decisionmaking.
- Partner closely with the Regional Vice President of Transportation to support regional financial goals, including assisting with highlevel special projects as needed.
- Prepare annual budgets and forecasts for assigned products and business units within the region.
- Prepare, monitor, and track capital expenditure requirements and ensure alignment with corporate guidelines.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop regional financial personnel, ensuring strong performance and adherence to company standards.
- Continuously monitor adherence to financial policies and procedures within assigned regions and recommend improvements where needed.
- Complete special projects as required by senior leadership.
- Oversee financial processes related to transportation operations, including freight cost analysis, route profitability, and carrier performance metrics.
- Ensure compliance with internal audit requirements, external audit requests, and regulatory reporting obligations.
- Lead process improvement initiatives to streamline accounting workflows, enhance accuracy, and reduce operational inefficiencies.
- Collaborate with Operations, Procurement, and Logistics teams to validate accruals, analyze variances, and support costcontrol initiatives.
- Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial adjustments prepared by the regional accounting team.
- Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) for transportation and distribution activities, providing insights to leadership.
- Support system implementations, upgrades, and integrations related to accounting, AP, AR, or transportation management systems.
- Serve as a key point of contact for resolving complex accounting issues and providing guidance on GAAP compliance.
- Prepare financial presentations and reporting packages for senior leadership, highlighting risks, opportunities, and operational impacts.
- Ensure timely and accurate accruals for transportationrelated expenses, including fuel, maintenance, carrier charges, and thirdparty logistics costs.
- Develop and maintain strong crossfunctional relationships to support business alignment and financial transparency.
- Participate in strategic planning discussions and contribute financial insights to support longterm business objectives.
Minimum Skills Required:
- 4-year College Degree (Accounting, Business or similar)) from an accredited institution.
- At least 5 years of prior experience in a similar role.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs (i.e. Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Knowledge of accounting updates.
- Good analytical and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills (i.e. oral and written).
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced, detail-oriented and confidential environment.
- 5 days in office.
Preferred:
- Bi-lingual: English and Spanish.
- Certified Public Accountant License.
- Cost accounting experience preferred.
- Experience with JE Edwards preferred.
- Experience with SAP financials and related modules.
